The Hallotober Tag

October 15, 2020 in Seasonal

What’s not to love about autumn? Crisp crunchy leaves in greens, yellows and reds. A chill in the air. Hoodie weather. Pumpkin spiced scents. Dark nights. Spooky books. It’s not hard to see why it’s my favourite time of the year. And there’s something about October in particular that just fills my heart with joy. So I was thrilled when Lauren at Laureny Loves tagged me to do the Hallotober tag and today I’m going to share my answers with you!

The Rules

• T
hank the person who tagged you and link to their post

• Put the rules at the beginning or after introduction

• Answer the 13 questions

• Tag 13 people to do the tag

• Delete Question 13, add a new number one question of your own

• You are free to use the tag image somewhere in the post

1. What’s Your Favourite Thing About October?

For me, October symbolises starting over. I know some people feel the same way about spring or even September but for me, it’s definitely an October thing. So there’s that.

But also all the things I mentioned at the start of this post! October’s the best.

2. Are You a Big Celebrator of Halloween?

I guess so? In the past, we’ve celebrated “Hayloween” which basically involves a lot of sugary snacks and a stack of family-friendly scary movies on the weekend closest to Halloween. This year we stuck up some decorations on October 1st because our little boy has raved about Halloween all year long.

3. What’s Your Favourite Horror Movie?

Okay so I’m a big scaredy cat. And this is common knowledge so you’re probably expecting me to say none of them. But actually I really enjoyed the Insidious films. I also liked the remake of Fright Night and What We Do In The Shadows which are both vampire-y.

In terms of family friendly horror and/or Halloween-themed films, here are some of my faves:

  • Hocus Pocus
  • Goosebumps 1 & 2
  • Halloweentown
  • Monster House
  • Hotel Transylvania 1, 2 & 3

4. Would you rather a cosy night in watching horrors or a big night out in a costume?

Cosy night in. Every time.

5. Which has been your most favourite costume to date?

I traditionally went trick or treating as a witch every year. And then my first year at uni, I dressed up as Pebbles Flintstone. So I don’t have a lot of options to go on.

6. Bobbing for apples or pin the hat on the witch?

If pinning the hat on the witch is the Halloween equivalent of pinning the tail on the donkey then that, 100%.

7. How do you celebrate Halloween?

I think I already answered this in #2. And I actually have plans to share this year’s specific plans with you in 2 weeks time so keep an eye out for that! But as a general rule of thumb, snacks + movies = Halloween.

8. What’s your least favourite horror?

Anything with body horror or gore.

9. Do you have a favourite trick or treating memory?

Um, not really. Just that we used to visit my grandparents on Halloween and they’d have these little goodie bags ready for us. That was really sweet.

10. What’s your favourite thing about Halloween?

The mood, I guess? There’s just something about Halloween that makes you want to dip into the scary and spooky stuff. I really like that. Last year I shared an autumn TBR which was full of like true crime and spooky books and while I haven’t shared my TBR for this month, it’s still pretty heavy on the spooks. Lots of ghosts, witches and the like. So yeah, definitely the mood.

11. Scary costume or Silly costume?

Okay so hear me out but I hate scary costumes. I just think that they can cause so much distress and like, why would you want to? As someone who is quite sensitive, scares easily and is adverse to gore, certain costumes do have a huge impact on my mental health. And I’m 30 years old. So yeah, that’s just my take on it so silly costumes all the way. But not offensive ones, please!

12. What’s your favourite Halloween candy?

Anything sour and fizzy!

13. Have you ever visited a scare grounds attraction?

No, I haven’t and I doubt I ever will.

I love the movie Halloweentown too. It has such nostalgic feels for me!

    • Hayley October 16, 2020 at 9:38 am

Right?! I used to love watching Halloweentown as a kid. 🙂

  • Jenny in Neverland October 16, 2020 at 11:40 am

I love this tag! I’ve never really properly celebrated Halloween but that’s probably cos we don’t really “do” Halloween properly in the UK do we? I wish I was in the US for Halloween one year! I love anything scary. The scarier the better, so I love scary costumes and seriously scary movies!

    • Hayley October 16, 2020 at 4:17 pm

I completely agree, Jenny! I don’t know about you but our childhood trick or treating consisted of knocking on the doors of our closest neighbours and then maybe we’d watch a movie, that was it haha.

  • Zoie October 16, 2020 at 12:31 pm

This is one of my favorite times of the year too! I have no idea what I’m doing this year, but I have some Halloween cookies to make so I’m excited for that 😊

    • Hayley October 16, 2020 at 4:21 pm

Ooh Halloween cookies sound great, hope you have a good one!

  • Kelly October 16, 2020 at 12:45 pm

I love reading tags like this. I’m slightly ashamed to say this, but I have never watched Hocus Pocus! I’m definitely going to change that this October!

    • Hayley October 16, 2020 at 4:24 pm

Ooh you really must! Hope you enjoy it! 🙂

  • lindsey October 16, 2020 at 7:35 pm

I feel like I’m stalking your blog at the moment but I’m loving it! I never thought of October as a fresh start before but considering I’ve got some big things happening this month, I love that mindset and think I’m going to adopt it. Loved reading this!

    • Hayley October 19, 2020 at 9:04 am

Haha thanks Lindsey, stalk away! 🙂 Hope you have an amazing October and that your big things go well!

  • Kadie October 17, 2020 at 7:20 pm

I am with you on the body horror or gore. I only really like psychological horror or ghosts/hauntings. October has always been my favourite month of the year! The weather is perfect and where I live the colours are beautiful! What’s not to love? I really loved reading your answers and since you left the tag open I am going to participate as well sometime in the next week 🙂

    • Hayley October 19, 2020 at 9:34 am

Ah yes, psychological horror that’s exactly what I like. Thanks Kadie! I’m looking forward to reading your answers! 🙂

  • Ellis James Designs October 19, 2020 at 8:26 am

What We Do in The Shadows was such a laugh! I revisit that movie every now and then and it never gets old. I also really enjoyed Monster House, loved that twist in the end with the two older siblings!

    • Hayley October 19, 2020 at 10:17 am

It’s so funny, isn’t it?? Have you watched the TV show? I watched the first few episodes but couldn’t get into it, still very funny! 🙂
